Peterman Service Technicians to Offer Free Furnace Tune-Ups

Local HVAC service technicians will volunteer this Saturday and perform free clean and checks for families on fixed-incomes to ensure heating equipment functionality and safety.
Indianapolis, September 29, 2011 – Peterman Heating & Cooling, Inc. service technicians will be volunteering their time this Saturday, October 1st in the “Bring the Heat” program, where local technicians will be performing over 60 free furnace tune-ups for families on fixed incomes. Now in its seventh year, the program put on by the Heating & Air Conditioning Alliance of Indiana is designed to provide a maintenance tune-up for families that would otherwise not be able to afford this service.
This will be the second year the Peterman service technicians will be participating in the program. These technicians volunteer their time, trucks, and expertise. During a furnace tune-up a technician performs a number of diagnostic tests along with making sure dirt and debris are cleaned out of the unit.
One of the most important tests the technicians perform is a carbon monoxide test. When fuel is burned to create heat in the home, carbon monoxide is produced as a byproduct. Carbon monoxide is most dangerous because it is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. There could be a leak and a person could be unaware they are being exposed to the harmful gas. Peterman Heating & Cooling technicians perform a carbon monoxide test on every furnace they tune-up.
There are a number of things a homeowner can do throughout the year to ensure their heating and cooling system is functioning properly. When asked about what homeowners can do to maintain their heating performance, Marty Horsthemke, another Peterman technician, explained, “Changing the furnace filter is a simple maintenance step that can improve your indoor air quality and help your system run more efficiently.” A furnace filter is a key component within your heating system that filters the air your furnace is heating. A clogged filter can cut down on the efficiency of your furnace by not allowing the proper amount of air to enter the system. Changing the furnace filter is just one simple step along with regular maintenance to keep your home comfort system running properly.

Monetary donations will be used to provide meals and t-shirts for the volunteers and any funds over the operational costs will go to purchase repair parts for the homes serviced on Saturday.
