Indoor air quality is an important aspect to every home comfort system here in the Indianapolis area. We spend a ton of time inside our homes and continually breathe the air that is being circulated in our homes. Unfortunately, no matter how much dusting and cleaning we do, there are still places in the home where unwanted dirt and germs still reside. Your HVAC duct system in a prime location for these harmful particles to make their home and you not even know it.
Lung irritants, germs, mold and toxins can collect in your duct system from a number of common sources. Among the culprits are household cleaners, pet dander, bacteria, rodent droppings and mold. These indoor pollutants can circulate in your home’s ductwork, reducing the quality of the air you breathe. Older homes are even more vulnerable given the duct system has been collecting these germs and dirt for a much longer period of time. A duct cleaning can be a huge help in eliminating these harmful particles from your home.

Have you ever wondered why your clothes are taking twice as long to dry? Have you cleaned the filter and you still don’t see any improvement? This is likely due to a clogged dryer vent. Your dryer is vented to the outside through metal pipe and if this pipe is clogged, it can cause your dryer to malfunction.
Getting your dryer vent cleaned every so often is a service that can both keep your dryer running efficiently and safely. At Peterman, we offer a dryer vent cleaning that is sure to keep your system functioning properly. We use a machine and a long hose with a brush on the end that we insert into your dryer vent. The machine makes the hose and brush spin to break up any debris that is in your dryer vent. The brush also pulls out this debris so it is no longer in your system.
Leaky Air Ducts Equal Money Down the Drain

Ever wonder why your home has hot and cold spots or your energy bills are through the roof? One cause of this problem could be leaks in your air duct system. According to the Department of Energy (DOE), 20 percent of air is lost in a home duct system due to holes, leaks, and poorly constructed duct work. This is money down the drain when it comes to heating or cooling a home.
Air ducts can develop leaks over the course of time leading to lost air flow to rooms within the home. This is even more prevalent in older homes where the duct work has been in place for a much longer time. Air ducts can be inspected very easily to ensure there are no leaks or tangles. Looking in the attic or crawl space to make sure all duct work is connected properly and no connections have come loose is an easy first step. A person should also check for proper connections at the boots that supply the home with air. Over time these have a tendency to come loose resulting in lost air. Connections in the system should be properly sealed with either mastic or metal tape to prevent future issues. Avoid using duct tape as it does not last as long.
